Dear Dad,
It’s been more than 44 years since you and I spoke in person and I think of you every day. You might ask why? The answer is simple. It’s the values and experiences you passed on to me.
The ten values I cherish the most and that I learned from you are: (1) honesty, (2) respect for others, (3) show gratitude, (4) education, (5) family loyalty, (6) make a difference, (7) Tikkun Olam, (8) religious observance and celebrating Jewish traditions, (9) work hard, play hard and take risks, (10) enjoy fun and adventure.
As far as experiences are concerned there is one that stands out above all others. After high school you sent me alone to Switzerland, which turned out to be a life changing experience. I became fluent in French and proficient in German. I developed friendships with people around the world and learned about their cultures. You built my self-confidence and helped me become independent. This was such a profound experience we passed it onto our 3 sons, who each greatly benefitted.
My biggest regret is that you have not been alive to see your impact on me and your grandkids. You will always be on my mind. Your loving son.
You are my Hero!
Ralph
